Haiku Hut 1

High above the ground we fly,
Watching ants play and die
Missile incoming, good bye.

----

ISK is the reward
And execution the goal;
Lulz are free for all.

----

Things to do and see,
Laziness takes over me
I play dust bunny.

When Death Comes Knocking...

An undertaker, in full uniform, walks into Purgatory Hall, one of many rooms in the space station.

"All rise for the execution of Sam 'DrDoom' Nero," echoes off the bulkheads, reverberating into the ear drums of the select two hundred men and women allowed to experience an undertaking of a former captain, mercenary, and brother.

"DUST is just an Add-on" (an opinion from GoonSwarm)

By: Nameless514

You would say that “you have to learn to walk before you learn to fly”, but with the DUST 514//EVE Universe it is flipped to “learn to fly before you learn to walk.” EVE online open to PC gamers back in late 2003 and introduced them to a Sandbox set in space with starship’s and pod's filled with immortal clones. This one-shared universe riddled with Crime, Corruption, Grieving, Scamming, Politics, Alliances, Corporation that number in the thousand and all based around an economy fueled by Conflict. 10 years later one Alliance has brought itself to stand above them all and they are known as Goon.

5000 Closed beta keys sent

Dust514.org received word from CmdrWang reguarding the closed beta, and the keys. This was posted:

"Update 1: CCP CmdrWang Just confirmed that Sony is sending out 5000 closed beta keys to their testers which have access to the current beta build.

Update 2: Current state of the beta is pre-fanfest build which is rather old and is used for stress-testing mostly. Sony needs to approve another big patch for DUST 514 and once they do Fanfest attendees and others will be able to get into the beta and start playing newest build of the game. This will happen during the next week or so.

Update 3: Currently the server is only available between 11:30 UTC Fridays and 11:00 UTC Mondays, with daily downtime betweeen 11 and 11:30."

If you received a beta for Dust 514, remember to give feedback to the devs on the official forums: https://forums.dust514.com/

The Rippling Effect of Revolution

History has shown us that revolutions spread. The American Revolution inspired the French Revolution. The communist revolutions of Russia spread to China, Korea, Vietnam, South America, and various other places. What started as a revolution in Tunisia has spread to Egypt, Yemen, Syria, Bahrain, and various other nations in the Middle East. Though a gaming revolution is something very different, and has much less in stake, the effect of a successful one will echo throughout the world of gaming, and lead to some big changes that will effect generations to come.

A Closer look at Tutorials

So now Dust 514 is F2P. Its interesting how much how games have changed...and stayed the same. I can remember back in the day, long before the web, long before video games were a household word, where a "video game" consisted of two pages of BASIC text that could be found in a monthly "computer" magazine. You bought the magazine, cuz you were a nerd, and you took the magazine home and you jumped on your Commodore 64 or your TI99 and you TYPED IT IN! YOURSELF! Two pages of standard text spaced lines of basic code that you input into your computer line by line and hit "run". And if you typed it right?...You had a video game!! If you made an error? Well then you went and found it and fixed it. Today's digital watches have more power then the computers these games were played on. Graphics? Pffft...ascii graphics!! Or sprites if you were REALLY cutting edge.

Copy of a Psycho 5: Crash

Part 1| Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5

His blade tears through the muscles of my forearm, and nail me against the tall rock behind me. I can feel it sawing through my bones. I watch my knife, what looks like my only hope for escape, hit the ground with a soft clink. I want to kill this fucker so much, I want to make him suffer for this, so I do.

Copy of a Psycho: Part 4 - SURVIVOR, WITNESS, & PREY

I was expecting more ice seeing how this is suppose to be a ice planet, but the Razdalek facilities are located near the equator where its pretty temperate. Our squad deployed, and begun a long journey to sneak all the way around, and attack the enemy installations from which they deploy. We'd been walking for maybe a kilometer, I know that's an exaggeration, but it feels like we have been.

Dust 514 screenshot suggests great variety

Taken from the PlayStation .blog Flickr account. When CCP posted on Facebook about the new PlayStation blog entry, this was the cover image (it was very small and hard to make out). Whatever that image was, it wasn't actually part of the post about the infantry weapons. I went on the PS Flickr account and finally found this.

Copy of A Psycho: Part 2 (Dust 514-inspired story)

Part 1| Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5

Names are strange, they are seen as important, yet tell you nothing about the individual. Mine is Varian Wulf, that name is a memetic relic from the original Varian Wulf, I am a clone, one that inherited his memories and thoughts. Perhaps names are important because it lets us cling to an illusion of identity.

Expansion (throwing out ideas)

When I first heard about Dust 514, one of my biggest concerns was variety of planet environments the player would be able to fight in; I was hoping for a massive amount of planetary environments, like permanently dark and stormy environment with lots of lightning, harsh deserst, volcanic, arctic, predominantly liquid (doesn't have to be water, could be liquid methane, or other possible liquids), various levels of gravity, and various atmospheric lighting, and sky colors. Killzone, however flawed it is, has spoiled me with its environments. An interview with Halldor Fannar (the CEO CTO of CCP) revealed that the majority of the battles would be fought on temperate planets, and battles on more extreme planets would be rare. Furthermore, those extreme planets would require the player to purchase special suits to fight in (which makes sense).

Copy of a psycho (Dust 514-based story)

Part 1| Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5

As I lay in a pool of my own blood wearing shattered armor, I stare at the sky above and watch what looks like a star flash above me. The light was so beautiful that it shifted my attention from the pain, and the bullets that are quickly causing the collapse of my vital organs. I try to remember the mission, what we're fighting for... and more importantly what I'm fighting for on this planet, but none of that seemed to matter now as I watch what looked like a bright star smash down causing massive casualties.

DUST 514: A Possible Fear

A Pessimistic Analysis

As revolutionary as the concept of Dust 514 is, I fear there are many factors that could hold the game back from being the success that it deserves to be.
One of these factors is that this is a PS3 exclusive shooter. I'm not simply talking about the obvious fact that being on more platforms will increase sales, but specifically the problems of PS3 platform. I love my PS3, but I have a theory about why Xbox360 shooters do better than PS3 shooters in sales. The theory is basically this; PS3 has so many exclusive shooters that the sales get really divided among the many titles, so none of the PS3 shooters get nearly as much individual sales as any to Xbox360 shooters.
