3C .vs. Dark Flock Aftermath

In a game that will be remembered more for what it didn't have that what it did, 3C easily defeated The Dark Flock winning two sabo matches in succession. But questions persist, 2.5 hours to queue up for two games? The efficiency of this (through no fault of the organizers) was pedestrian at best. Without a Clan Wars system the ability to get clans into matches is a crapshoot. Why wasn't the Flock able to defend? The randomness of the queues simply wouldn't allow it.Wouldn't a system where each clan defended once and a tie-breaker (if necessary) awarded defense based on some other criteria? We tend to think so.

Just as amazing was the fact that the amount of viewers online never dipped below 160 on UStream Yes--even with the super-long time it took to actually play the games) for a game that was outsold 20-to-1 by its competitition (MW2) is a year-old and before its arrival on PSN essentially only retained its hardcore audience. All the long-time MAG players returned (atleast to watch) as the chatroom (although extremely e-peenish, reeking of teenage male testoterone and often rude) was a virtual who's who of MAG notables. Even the players in-game stopped by from time-to-time to chat it up.

It goes without saying that the loser of this match would be violently kicked from their elite pedestal and lose much of their aura of invincibility. TDF by their own admission (i'm quoting Raptor2525) "wasn't ready" and it certainly showed. Most went negative and their tactics were dealt with swiftly and brutally. Many said that the cost to the loser of this match would be worse than the benefits to the winner and this was readily apparent as many in the chat-room were awestruck by how easily they were put down. What more can be said about 3C through all the allegations of quitting (many confirmed) you can't deny that they field a clan of elite players, and although there are already whispers of "3C Ringers" that suited up just for this match, 3C dominated, even besting TDF on their own map at Darien Network. Although he was the focus of many chat-room insults and the ever-present "PRO Sucks" reference, the debate can certainly be made for a clan of elite teamwork like ContraBanJoe's team, trumping one of elite killers based on the one-sided nature of the game. Then there's the debate that the maps have gotten "small". MAG players have played this game for a year and the sabotage maps are limited in their tactical options and strangely enough, size (boy are we spoiled)--a better game mode may have been Interdiction with its size, tactical element and amount of flanking routes, although asking each clan to have 64 players ready is a bit much.

In the end, the passion of this community is something rarely seen, and while the game itself was brilliant in concept, but flawed in many aspects of implementation, the one thing they absolutely nailed was the social aspect. It's something many haven't been exposed to before and although many players leave for extended periods of time--something keeps bringing them back, even if its just to watch. The case for a MAG 2? We think its a viable one, and its something we'll be sure to ask the developers about in our Zipper interviews. Zipper has collected enormous amounts of data on player tendencies and no doubt knows where they went wrong (lack of advertising, included mics, lack of timely content, an in-depth offline tutorial, weapon tuning and imbalanced maps among other areas) and lastly, they know there's a market for massive, communication-based, tactical shooters and even if they don't do a MAG 2. Its a certainly that someone else will.

In the odd-but-too-funny-to-be true and oh-no-he-didn't! category, MAG luminary and everyone's favorite look-at-me-player-MoeJoe crashed the party and got 2 quick kills at the end of Round 1. PURE COMEDY. You couldn't help but laugh if you were there in the chatroom to see it.

  2. 3C Needs to attack and win to claim the win, not just defend two times in a row. Defnding is much easier than attacking.

  3. word! but who the hell was at B in the first game? yall suck! i've seen bludots play better!

  4. 6 and 27 xception? really? a lot of people think they good because they own blue-dots but are average.

  5. yeah the results mean nothing unless 3C are attacking on the same maps, because as pointed out above defending is always easier than attacking

  6. both sides need to attack. come on zipper!

  7. mean nothing? losers always tell on themselves and say something stupid like that. 3C needs to attack but TDF got owned!

  8. lack of tactics really shows in a game like this. the run up and kill everybody plan doesn't work when you play people as good as you. easiest map to attack too. OUCH!

  9. yup, no coordinated rushes rarely saw any heals, do new tactics and you expect to win? 3C wasn't gonna lay down u know.

  10. dood! how the hell did tic2000 and shaka zulu get in the flock?

  11. yup! notice how he got "disconnected" after seeing his 5 and 16. rage quit FTW! good thing MoeJoe took his spot.

  12. he did what? WOW. any flock wanna comment on shaka doodoo?

  13. Is 3C still claiming that KDR is better than actual wins? Fucking chumps need to go roll in some dirt or something.

  14. I agree that to determine a true winner both sides need to attack. 3C could have lost a defending game just as easy as the flock did.

Although a win is a win, TDF needs to work on some clan based tactics. I havent seen any 3C videos posted...so no one can comment on their style of play. It may have been just as sloppy as TDF in terms of clan tactics.

Props to both clans. I smell a rematch.

  15. Something to note: While interdiction would require more players, queing would be much easier to do in that less played mode. I imagine that you would have your clan match running on the second try.

  16. Well attacking wouldn't you be at a disadvantage? If everyone on an attacking squad was positive most likely your at C half way through the match. Not going to happen playing leet killers defending. TDF didn't employ much smoke...gas etc. At least didn't see much ... Probably just not well prepared, but if a rematch occurred I'm sure they would have their poop wired tight. Next time TDF pick up Mojoe. 3C got no shame and had PDIGGY22....he's 3C don't ya know?

  17. Bowtag, Diggy, Asbo, trance, DBC, I could name loads more if I really wanted too, there's even ones who played on others' accounts I'm not supposed to know about who played.

Lol, 3c are just a bunch of ringers, and I'm sure for VL$ they'll have many more ringers.

They're excuse? "All clans do it"

    ReplyDelete
  18. yeah there's a pretty comprehensive list of around 8-10 ringers that played for 3C... it is confirmed because exactly zero of those names were in 3C by a few days later, and in fact it'll be hilarious when we see half of them in VL$ tonight

  19. you guys still crying about ringers
1st post seems like that girl carnage. nevermind it is him (her)
8-10 ringers LMAO. so i guess you're saying ARx were ringers? even thou they were in the clan for like a month?
i guess dotsilver who was in PRO before was a ringer also for TDF? i could keep going.
also i saw many ringers for 3C in the VLS match.......boy o boy i think they're whole team were ringers. it's funny cause you should have seen the amount of ringers VLS had. lol
VLS did a way better job attacking, than the flock, they were actually able to touch both objectives. lmao
    man that livestream was awesome

  20. Lol At reading the two haters in these old comments. This is Shaka Zulu, and its hilarious to think and says alot about the comenters, that anyone would wanna rage quit out a frigging clan match (especially as it was intensely fun, despite the frustrating game), reeks of projecting your behaviour on to me.

I bet you never frozen out of games (nor me trying to get back in being stopped by someone crashing the game), nor that several others on both sides froze out/dced in that game to begin with. If you retards wanna talk trash, atleast post your retarded names.

  21. No one's going to see this, but I might as well comment because I just found this article today.

I was on ~^~ Round 1, and I have to say, attacking any experienced clan of similar numbers is a difficult task. We didn't have all of our best players (people got bored of waiting, or had to leave because the syncing wasn't perfect and took way too long, so I got into the battle easily even though I was registered only as a backup), and our tactics weren't very advanced. We had great discussions about possible strategies, but we didn't have much time to practice them, and when we did we couldn't really see how effective they were because we couldn't go up against organized opposition. When we went in, most of us still had our usual loadouts and skill trees, so we were playing with the equipment we'd need for a regular steamrolling attacking match.

As for 3C's "Ringers," that is neither here nor there. With us attacking, Ringers made little difference. When two equally (or close too, if you want to dispute this) matched teams go against each other, the defending force will almost always win. Copper Hills Relay is set up in favor of the defenders. Attackers must navigate wide-open spaces to get from cover from cover. Anyone who hasn't played against 3C can't be talk when I say that if you are left exposed in the open with a 3C player nearby, you're most likely going to be heading back to the respawn within three to five seconds. 3C players are experts at taking advantage of the cover the map provides, and are great at headshots too. With the Sensor Jammer, it was all too easy for 3C members to hide behind cover watching their radar and peeking out at main player channels (the paths most commonly taken by attackers). Once they see you, they pop out and get a quick two or three headshots and move on to another spot of cover. However, using Ringers was disrespectful and against the spirit of Clan Wars, and has since tainted the competitiveness forever with sly tactics and questionable behavior just to satisfy a burning desire to win.

  22. As mentioned before, the maps are really set up for the defenders. Besides the middle runway in front of the church (which is still an attacker death-trap against organized opponents), most parts of the map give defenders a huge advantage. This might be an odd way of putting it, but on Copper Hills Objective A is set up so that the defenders can more easily defend the point from outside the Objective, while at B they can easily defend the Objective from inside. Objective A has less walls and barriers surrounding it, making it easier to get to from the sides. However, the Objective itself, being unprotected, was very hard to defend once it was secure. When you have A secured, it is very hard to defend while waiting for B to fall. There is a lot of cover near the defender spawn, and several little nice flanking paths both on the edge of the map with the tents as cover and on the Church side, which was protected by the Objective B defenders. A-side defenders were much more spread out during the match, and as such Objective A was taken often by ~^~ but never really held for very long.

I felt that I really had to devote a paragraph to Objective B, as that was the side I was attacking. At best, B was a nightmare. 3C knew the in's and out's of B very well. B is surrounded by a wall, and has only a few entrances. The front entrance is a joke, and anyone (even in a normal game) who tries to get through it is going to be spotted almost immediately and will be heading to the respawn soon after. The front entrance mainly only serves as a place for the defenders to hide behind and shoot attackers as they head to the right. The right side (from the attacker's point of view) is a row of tents with a bit of cover (in the form of crates) for defenders. When we rushed the right side, 3C just had to hide in between the tents and pop in and out (or hide behind crates). Meanwhile the left side of B was also difficult to attack. By the trailer and crates, there are basically two entrances and an alternate path to the side of B (the road). The entrance heading in the immediate direction of the road has crates for the defenders to hide behind, and the other entrance through the wall leaves attackers exposed from two sides. The road has a lot of cover for defenders, and it is easy for the defenders from the other two entrances on that side to see the attackers running over there and alert the rest of the defenders. As for the abandoned buildings just to the right of the road that leads from the church, 3C expected us to take this route because it was the best option. It provided us with the most cover and the best chance of success, but because they were prepared for that we would usually just kill a couple of them before the rest would manage to come over and slaughter us in the open from all sides.

I wasn't on the Darien game (after waiting two hours, I had to go, and so did a lot of our original roster).

DotSilver has been with the clan before and after the battle. We didn't let anyone play for us who didn't earn their place on our roster. Dot went through the same process that everyone else did to earn their ~^~ tags, and the officers' judgement is always sound, fair, and the final call in our clan.

  23. As for Shaka Zulu, he's never been a rage quitter. I've seen his connection go out in games where he's doing great, and games where he's doing bad. Connection is likely pretty bad in Europe, and a low KDR is never something to quit a game for, especially in such an eagerly anticipated match for the whole clan.

Everyone on The Dark Flock is worthy of being on the roster, and one bad game is not worth discrediting hundreds of hours of their achievements.

Though I've been a little harsh on them here, 3C is a great clan, and one we were proud to fight against. I'm not satisfied with the results (two attacking matches is hard to evaluate, especially as no clan battles of such scale have ever been fought in MAG history), but what's done is done. A rematch would be nice, but unlikely. Good game 3C, but these matches aren't really anything to brag about when you consider all the other circumstances of the match. No one may ever read this, seeing as the last comment was in January, but do I care? No. When I joined ~^~, I joined for the clanmates around me, the friendly attitude, the reputation of respect and skill that The Dark Flock still holds, and I joined to be a part of what I still consider to be the best clan MAG has ever known.

    Respectfully,
    spiffyspleen
