Player Interviews: Rainbow Gold of The Dark Flock

Do you know who the ZSA is? You Should. Apparently its a mixture of some of MAG's top clans (3C and The Dark Flock among them) with one mission: To Dominate DUST 514. Be sure to read our interview with Rainbow_Gold for details.

Bruce Harmon so tell me about yourself...who is Rainbow Gold? 

RG well I created that psn somewhere in 2008. Kronos1994 was my actual psn but there was a clan on killzone 2 of which all the names of the members began with rainbow, thats how rainbow_gold was born.

Bruce Harmon - so you're a veteran FPSer then? 

RG Yes I've been playing FPS since Socom 1 was released. I've played a lot of shooters including socom (1-3), Star wars battlefront 2 and killzone 2 .

• ok, so what made you take notice of DUST 514?
• RG I was chatting with some other guys in the Danger Zone chatroom and then someone began talking about Dust514. After that we (3C and Danger Zone) told each other everything we could find about Dust514

  • understood. you're in 3C? but you have a dark flock sig...explain.

  • Well my main character is on Raven. I got better and wanted to join The Dark Flock but they died on MAG just before i joined. After they came back Four said that The Dark Flock wasnt as competitive as before, it became more casual but nevertheless i joined. I also had a SVER alt and that one joined 3C. You could say that in MAG i'm loyal to the Flock but outside MAG I'm loyal to 3C

  • So which group will you be joining in DUST?
• RG
  

  • So I spend more time in the 3C chatrooms
  • I consider myself to join 3C's side in DUST514. But there is the "Zaibatsu Syndicate Alliance", It consists of the Flock, 3C, Dangerzone, SYN and MEW. So the flock and 3C will be together.

  • Yeah, i heard about the Alliance in the 3C chatroom. Spade told us about the Alliance and that we would be working together. At first i was cynical about the Alliance, because the Flock and 3C were rivals in MAG. But it actually isnt like that, The flock and 3C can get along with each other.

  • again, that is one strong alliance. do you think anyone can challenge that roster?
• RG
  

  • lol IMO no. I'm not worried about that, I'm more worried about the actual EVE players. According to what i know they can betray the mercenaries. That concerns me more. But the other Alliances from MAG are pretty strong too, i just dont think they can handle the Alliance imo.

  • i agree. the EVE players worry you? How do you feel about entering a space where they've had a foothold for almost ten years?

  • The EVE players supply us with money but they can betray us. Is it ten years? wow. Well I dont think a PC player can annihilate a console gamer. It just wont be easy finding trustworthy EVE players. After that we dont need to worry about anything.If they betray us, we'll destroy them.

  • i see. you're pretty hard on traitors huh? So how did the ZSA come together?
• RG
  

  • I dont like traitors, once a traitor always a traitor. And the only way to fight fire is with fire. so for the Alliance, as far as i know, Spade and Four made the Alliance. Than other clans just joined in.

  • understood. what does Zaibaitsu mean?
• RG
  

  • Zaibatsu is japanese. Its from old japan. It means that a lot of companies (or clans in this case) come together and put there differences aside. They come under one leader (in the ZSA its multiple leaders working together)

  • makes sense. you mentioned the flock being a shell of its former self. do you think many of the core members will return for dust?
• RG
  

  • Yes, the core members left cause of all the problems MAG had in combination with no support from Zipper. DUST514 is a worthy replacement for MAG, so yeah i think they'll come back. Every hardcore gamer I know will go to DUST so they'll definitely go to DUST514.

  • 3C is known as an elite clan but in our earlier interview with Sithis he mentioned all the problems that egos had caused. Will managing egos with numerous elite clans be possible?

  • The leader of every clan in the ZSA is also the highest ranking officer in the Alliance
  • Every Leader chooses 2 officers from his clan, they'll become the regular officers from the Alliance. If any clan wants to join the Alliance than the leaders from the ZSA will vote if they can join. So i think that the leadership is being handled quite good.

  • you mentioned being more loyal to 3C than the flock? can the flock trust you? it was 3C after all that took away TDFs aura of invincibility after your much-hyped clan match.

  • Thats actually a good question. Can the flock trust me? Well my loyalty lies with 3C but if the Flock doesnt trust me than they should kick me. I consider myself trustworthy and i wont betray anyone.

  • what well-done elements can dust borrow from MAG?
• RG
  

  • The Hardcore experience, the high learning curve that needs to be in DUST. Else DUST will be another brainless shooter like Call of Duty. The Massive battles and the clan system from MAG. those are the 2 things that DUST also needs to have.

  • what MAG mistakes should Dust be sure not to repeat?

  • The unbalance. It should be balanced for sure. The patches, Zipper listened too much to the casual gamers when they should have listened to the Hardcore gamers. And the most important fail of Zipper is that there was little to no support

  • So is there any truth to this rumor that all of the elite mag clans are going to join up to dominate Dust?

• RG
  

  • Well IMO the rumors are quite true. I'm not sure if ALL elite clans will come together. The ZSA will definitely dominate, the other Alliances probably too.

  • speaking of clans, are there any old scores that you cant wait to settle in DUST?
• RG
  

  • Not really. I do want to fight the other Alliances from MAG. But other than that, nah not really

  • what Dust information has you the most excited so far?
• RG
  

  • That it will be a changing War (the fighting on different planets) and that its going to be a hardcore game.

  • does too much persistence worry you? say you wake up one morning to find half of your planets have been conquered, what then?
• RG
  

  • We'll take them back, lol. It will be fun to constantly fight for planets and money. I'm from Europe, others are from Europe too. there are also Americans. With a lot of different clans together, the ZSA will have members online all the time. So the ZSA will always be ready to react.

  • Since there's no subscription fee. Do you have a problem putting money into Dust to buy equipment? how is the microtransactions model in your opinion?
• RG
  

  • I think the microtransactions model is good. It is said that the things you can buy with real money wont make you OP. That way you dont need to buy anything but i do know that many member will use the microtransactions. For me, i may buy something but i dont think I'll use it a lot.

  • Do you worry about "that guy" who'll pay lots of money every month for weapons/equipment every month will have an advantage over you?
• RG
  

  • No, i consider myself a good player so i can hold my own and I'll always play with the Alliance. And there will definitely be people in the Alliance who invest a lot of money. They'll deal with those "guys". But i dont think that the weapons/equipment you can buy make you OP so i wouldnt have to worry about those guys anyway.

  • They need to watch out. They could either join us or get out of our way. lol, no we'll just be an elite Alliance. Thats it actually
