The Dust Hall of Fame

Love them or hate them they are the most dynamic individuals in Dust's short history. As the core community and luminaries leave and the game draws to a close, we felt it was our duty to highlight New Eden's most influential planetside mercenaries and powerbrokers. Without further ado:  Your ten Dust Hall of Fame members.

1. Zionshad - The great communicator, Zionshad was the first merc to use numerous forms of media to turn himself into a brand while leading the organization he aptly named after himself. While his secret identity and actions as Nameless514 was probably one of Dust's worst kept secrets, it helped to draw players to his organization. Even defeats at the hands of ROFL and the death of the Legacy Rising alliance could not force Zion TCD to shut down. Shad is a shining example of how adapting to the ever-changing Dust landscape was the best way to stay relevant.

2. Cazaderon - Some referred to him as the only console player among the CPM. We recognized him as the owner of the Dust France website, the CEO of WTF, a high level, founding corp in CRONOS [which was Dust's first mega alliance] Cazaderon also appears on this list for another reason, as a member of the CPM, his shining example of 'community first' when he decided to resign in protest upon learning the 'Dust to PC' news was being delayed rather than CCP simply being upfront and honest with the community months ago. While hindsight tells us how the announcement [commonly referred to as the 'Rouge Wedding'] went over, we will forever hold him in high esteem for his actions.

3. Alldin Kan/Regnum - Not so long ago Alldin Kan wondered if the servers could handle his presence. Many players wouldn't have been surprised if he were right. Through much debate among our writers, he was voted Dust's most elite and dominant player. Some might argue, but his non-reliance on the FOTM mechanics most 'elite' players resorted to put him ahead of guys like Regnum [who still gets an honorable mention here] but to those who know, Alldin Kan was simply in a class all by himself.

4. Kane Spero - Few would doubt Kane's status as Dust's preeminent powerbroker. Has there ever be a better tyrant and backstabber disguised as a liberator and organizer? We tip our hat to the man who constantly harnessed elite players and got them to do his bidding. From poaching all of Betamax elite players, to PFC and ERA's almost total takeover of Molden Heath [chuckle, to prove a point of course] Even the devs fell for it and elected him to the CPM after his much publicized outing as an AFK abuser. Recognizing the power of media, he even wrote for our blog for a spell. While none would go on the record, no less than two of his CPM peers declared him the biggest fraud, grandstander and manipulator of game mechanics to fit his own ends in Dust. He was in the end, a smaller scale Mittani for the planetary version of New Eden.

5. Quickgloves - No one will ever forget STB claiming an entire PC planet as their own and dubbing it SVER Prime. Easily one of the most charismatic leaders of the Dust era Quickgloves was one of the first to assemble a group of players from multiple skill levels into a massive group and partner with EVE entities. He rose to prominence after claiming CCP purposely kept his group out of the first Mordu Tourney. Never one to shy from the players he considered 'tryhards' and the forums, he fought wars on multiple fronts and introduced a major shift in tactics being one of the first to employ ringer groups like the Team Players to augment his forces when the opponent outclassed them in skill.

6. KageHoshi - The patron saint of immersion, great suggestions and design balance Kagehoshi easily earns a spot on our list. One of the community's most influential and neutral players, the Dust version of Switzerland often chimed in on debates with a deft voice of reason. He also championed the progress cause by submitting some of the great suggestions we will no doubt see in Legion [or else].

7. Teamplayers - They are simply the group of mercenaries that changed the way PC is played. While our blog weren't big fans of small, elite groups dominating PC, The TP were simply the best at it for the longest period of time. EON's A-team reduced the overhyped FEC to a non-event due to their ability to methodically win 16 vs 16 battles. From there they set the standard as for-hire mercenaries to the point where acquiring the services of the TP was enough to guarantee you victory and make your enemies shiver with fear.

8. Kevall Longstride - The man also known as Dennie Fleetfoot takes his spot in the HOF for his unwavering desire to become his own personal NPE. Anyone who has played Dust knows how utterly and completely lacking the introduction for new players was. His commitment as the CEO of Dust University is by far one of the most noble acts in Dust's short history. Their mission was to grab as many new players as they could and educate them on the ways of New Eden. For going above and beyond and attempting to do much of CCP's work for them--we salute you Kevall.

9. ShottyGobang - The man responsible for the scout registry and by extension every registry that came after it is next. While an elite player in his own right SGB is largely credited with prompting each player class to broach issues of balance with CCP. He is the man behind the rise of the scouts and even if the class is now unbalanced, few would argue our speedy, low-HP brethren weren't in need of major tuning when he began his campaign for change.

10. The Imperfects - They were truly the first dominant group of players in Dust. So much so that players like Protoman, notorious for his bravado, wisely sought them out to join rather than compete with them. Their domination of the Mordu's Tourney introduced them to the community and forum villains like Mr. Zitro, Regnum and Sleepy Zan made them even more infamous. Sadly, like many elite players before and after them, Dust's lack of progress and core mechanics eventually caused most of them to leave the game. We feel a little cheated, never knowing what this group of elite players could have accomplished in New Eden.

We hope you've enjoyed this piece detailing the most notable names in Dust's short history. Do you agree with our list? Maybe you felt like we left someone out? Let us know in the comments. Stay tuned for our next piece 'The Top 10 moments in Dust' releasing on Monday.

  1. No comments today because no one cares about this irrelevent blog wallowing in the past and praising clueless shitlords that dont even play the game anymore? Or no comments today because you're blocking anything like this comment that doesn't kiss your ass and make you feel important?

We'll see if you have the balls to publish this or whether you groom your comments to make yourself look good.

  2. Not only is most of this information false/incorrect, most of the people here mentioned don't deserve that mention (At least not for the reasons stated.

Firstly: Zion Shad was never a "Great Communicator." He is/was the "Great Spammer." He is among the ranks of myself, Kagehoshi, and Iron Wolf Saber, Kane Spero, and Jenza Aranda in that we could be dubbed "The early posters who would not shut the hell up." It was this that made us all prominent, deserved or not.
However, unlike Posters like Kagehoshi, Myself, Kane Spero, or Jenza Aranda; Zion Shad rarely (if ever) posted any unique or productive posts. His entire "angle" or "promotion" was in reporting things other players were posting/doing (Which is admittedly valuable) but in doing so, he would always post a headnote or footnote (most often both) about how he was zionshad and how great he was to bring people this news.

While his efforts on podside and his MPX startup deserve commendation, and I will always respect the hell out of the guy for saying exactly what's on his mind. Even if most of the time he doesn't think what he says through, I cannot fault him for that since that is a trait the two of us share :)

When it comes to Kain, if you are referring to the stuff I posted as evidence of him being a "master manipulator", I suggest you re-read what I posted. I flat out said this was not true. Grandstander? Yes. Absolutely. Fraud? Debatable, but definitely false for the reasons you're thinking. Despite what you post, I am totally willing to go on the record and say Kane did not abuse his knowledge or power as a CPM member.

Lastly, I'll only comment on Caz leaving : As I've said before on Twitter, Cazaderon is a -fucking hero- for reasons well beyond him resigning. Literally no one up until the time that he quit dust can say they did more to support the game than he did. No one. He is not a hero because he resigned. Him resigning was not heroic in the slightest. While I will always commend someone for standing up for what they believe in.... Do not presume to understand the circumstances (or timing) of his resignation. Not if you truly respect him. Hold him up for the things he did, not the things you want to think he did.

  3. Thanks for the comment, Nova. For the record you werent the source of our CPM comments regarding Kain, but thank you for your clarification.

    1. I'm certainly not your source either. In fact, I've never heard a CPM member say this either.....and no one ever would, because it is patently false. Unless you're going to get a name on record, I'm calling you ou here for posting sensationalist garbage. Irregardless of your intent to praise Kain, the fact that you care so little about the truth is just plain irresponsible and a detriment to the community we've worked to build.

    2. you cpm guys sure are mouthy lately for a group with no real power or influence whatsoever, do us a favor and direct this energy at ccp.

    3. Lol the two cpms that called out kain were probably kane and kain. look bro if you knew kain youd know he doesnt have the skill or balls to metagame ccp. They dont fall for shit anyways. But kane calling himself a playa for attention? Yeah, i buy that and so does everyone else that knows him. Gnn just stahp pretending youre still part of the community...you look like a fool posting this nonsense

    4. the only sensationalist stuff i see here is the cpm. u claim the piece is false and give one example of an error and nova proceeds to rant an opinion regarding shad. i was in zion tcd and he was one of the best leaders and recruiters in the game! i might not agree with the whole list but ur opinions means less than nothing.

    5. and if we did reveal our sources would anyone be willing to go off the record again, ever? the quote is real despite any efforts to discredit it.

    6. lol @ all the people Kane had under his thumb he played every single one of u.

    7. MAG, you miss the point. Whether the quote is real or not, its absolutely meaningless to the community without hard evidence that said abuse of power took place (unless your intent is to deliberately mislead the public). Even if a CPM member went on record saying as much, are you really the kind of person that believes everything you're told without fact-checking? Your readership deserves to know.

Without any evidence that the claim is true, by posting this you feed the misconception that the CPM is somehow capable of metagaming CCP, and potentially encourage other players to attempt such foolishness in the future. Damaging the CPM weakens the community's access to the development process, and if you had any integrity whatsoever you would demand evidence for such an extreme accusation, instead of inserting it casually as if it were credible.

So, for the sake of the community, the time has come to make a decision. Are you going to continue to label yourself a "news" source, and actually have the integrity to back up some of your claims with evidence? Or will you choose instead to run a gossip column that will post just about anything juicy that the community will much popcorn over, even if that false information is damaging to the community's interests in the long term.

Let's not leave things on a bad note here though. Do you have any objections to a public voice chat where we can discuss the role of the CPM and jointly promote a responsible balance between community advocacy and in-game meta play? I invite you to come onto the Biomassed Podcast (if they'll have us) sometime to discuss this further, or any other suitable discussion medium of your choosing. Lets turn an unfortunate misunderstanding here into something healthy and productive for the good of the community we both care about.

    8. We've actually already accepted an invite for Biomassed so we'd love to. See if the shows producers can accomodate us and we'll be glad to join in.

  5. FFS Bruce I'm ashamed I'm on the list. You literally have just enough knowledge for people to pay attention only for you to be insultingly irrelevant due to lack of knowledge.

you list Caz, Quickgloves, Shottygobang, and Zionshad as leave out Mavado/EoN., Sha/SI, Kujo/Ancient Exiles., and others? Zionshad has nothing on GimbleB, hell King ThunderBolt has more interesting and new material than Shad does. Contrabanjoe and his corps are about as relevant as Quick and STB ever was.

Alldin is the best all around player of all time, so good call.

    1. this is like the worst kept secret ever bro. sad that shad needs to use a second blog (that everyone knows is him anyways) just to sit around and circlejerk with the men he loves and talk about important they still are

  7. Played since beta, haven't heard about half those guys before, wow they must have been really important. Imo this is just another way of self-glorification or better said sucking your buddy's cocks.

    1. dont be stupid, I dont even really agree with all of the names on the list but you can look at this blogs old stuff and see they have been there since the beginning.

    2. The problem is that they're STILL only writing about the beginning of Dust. It's like they haven't even played the game in 6 months, all this blog ever publishes is old news about MAG's old friends.

    3. Wrong. we write about the history from Chromsome up until the 'Rouge Wedding'. We realize much of that predates many of you but theres nothing we can do about that. we've watched the game's ebb and flow and its personalities and certainly have a better scope than say, a person who picked the game up a year ago.
