"Ode to the Heavy"
A Dust 514 poster by the name of Thranx 1231 wrote a piece recently on the forums that really caught our attention. It addresses the criticism that a few players have directed at the Heavy Dropsuit lacking skill, and being little more than a tanking spammer.
Heavies
We are mobile personnel tanks. We absorb hits, clear the objective, can keep two Logis busy and allow the squad to capture objectives without being overwhelmed locally as well as try to neutralize Red Heavies.
Some of us use Forge Guns to take the tank message further afield.
We attract attacks, we incite fear, we drive to inspire our side to move forward. Clear the NC and hold it. Stop the wave of Reds swooping behind our lines to retake objectives. When there is a minor sea of Reds the best way to clear it is with a Heavy and their trusty HMG.
And we die. We die because we stick our neck out when it has to be done. If we are surrounded by a good squad then we last a lot longer. We do more damage, the objectives stay Blue longer.
Help us by flanking those focused on us. Take the kill. Take the assist. The Reds must go down.
Drop a Hive, rep our armor, revive us. Point us at the next group to eliminate and support us.
For The Win.
The lesson here is simple. With the depth of the gameplay given us by CCP, every brand of player on the field has a function. While assault style players are often seen as the top tier performers, they are only one breed of player on the battlefield. Is the Logi just a supply player? Are all pilots carefree flyboys? Is the skilled sniper someone who hangs back, never assisting while his teammates take all the risk? Every player has a purpose and can prosper in their chosen roles.
As always, we'll continue to attempt to help push and publish ideas that help establish and grow the Dust 514 community as much as we can. Have any ideas that need sharing? Be sure to contact us at magww@live.com
